The UAE is a closely-knit and homogenous society whose ethnicity is Arab. The UAE society may be described as patriarchal and conservative whose value system is drawn from Islam and a long tradition of Arab customs and tribal code of ethics. However, a combination of moderate Islam and a long tradition of trade and travel have made UAE society tolerant to other cultures and quite liberal in its treatment of women, who enjoy all basic rights and equal opportunities at work and in public office.

The UAE is a young and vibrant nation; people are proud of their ancestors who worked hard under the harsh desert environment to cater for their families and community, and they take pride of the big strides they made under the leadership of the late Abu Dhabi ruler and UAE president, Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan. The late president turned the country into a modern state with global competencies, and opened the door to his people for a sea of opportunities and challenges.

The UAE people are well educated, widely traveled and well versed in English. Living up to old Arabic traditions and customs, nationals are hospitable, friendly and like to share their culture with visitors.

For visitors who are interested to meet and socialize with locals and gain first-hand knowledge of their customs, nature, thoughts or way of life, officials at the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (Tel: +971 2 444 0444) or the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Tel: +971 2 621 5300) can be approached for assistance.
