Most of these institutions are independent organisations that focus on teaching modern standard Arabic (MSA), and, to a lesser extent, Classic Arabic, to anyone who is interested to learn the language for a fee. These courses often help non-Arabic speaking individuals to read and write using their host country’s language and help them navigate through their day-to-day routines especially if their work entails frequent interaction with Abu Dhabi locals, as with hotel and hospital staff. World-renowned language institution Berlitz is present in Abu Dhabi, while the British Council also offers Arabic language courses on demand. The Mother Tongue Arabic Language Centre charges an average of Dhs 1,800 (roughly US$490) for 36-hour lessons, be it beginner or advanced Arabic.
